One of the best things about my job is that I get to do my own thing for much of the time. As long as I'm busy, I'm pretty much left to get on with things. So, if I think it's a good idea to hold a public meeting and let people pass all their complaints to me, it's up to me to arrange it and deal with the problems as they arise. Similarly, if I decide it's time to visit a Primary School and play Johnny Ball for the day, well, that's pretty much okay too. I just have to make sure everyone knows where I am and as long as I come back with the right sort of photos everybody's happy...

School Assembly

Anyway. I started off by asking about Dangerous places Yes, come out to the front and draw your volcano! and followed up with the dangers of building sites That's right - you wouldn't want to fall into a cement mixer, would you?

The highlight of the day had to be the "Let's blow a teacher up into the air and make her land in a bucket" routine. Gets them every time! I've made some highly convincing dynamite now too! It's amazing what you can do with some candles and sugar paper.

Canonball Teacher

Well, it was a hoot. We kept having to halt the count-down because the teacher didn't have the right safety gear. By the time we were ready to launch the place was in uproar. It was just a pity when the fake dynamite failed to explode and send the teacher flying though the air into the little red bucket.

Are they really paying me for this?
