Broken Chain

You! Are a link in a chain,
Is what he said before they left,
Them green thrown at him with contempt,
Riddles are confusing,
It's Acid Casualty,
Simple causality,
Nothing non forked talk couldn't fix,
Thanks for the sentiment,
But he was Buck Lied up,
You know what I mean?
Dropped in a snake pit,
Instantly bitten,
Hope you made it through,
Lesson more you,
Ignorant foolish arrogant yes,
but a venomous bite?
You lied to him Buck!
You used Anarchy,
To cut a branch from the tree,
Apologise now Buck!
Make your reparations to me...

Trouble With Lichen

"This is not the age of reason, this is the age of flummery, and the day of the devious approach. Reason’s gone into the backrooms where it works to devise means by which people can be induced to emote in the desired direction." John Wyndham

This is a recording from the latest concert performed by Newmill Male Voice Choir while they were touring in Poland earlier this year. I've been a member of this fine body of men for about six months now, and my own first concert would have been October 6th. However, popular Canadian Prog-Rockers, Rush are playing Sheffield that evening, so I'm going to have to miss the chance. (One has to have one's priorities straight.)

I've chosen "Anthem" from Chess because it was the first song I learned as part of the group. And also because I still can't play it without joining in. Enjoy...

How can I approach you now?
When I can see the hate upon your brow.
I gave you a loving embrace,
You fell into a state of grace.
It felt so good to hear you sing,
Watch you do your thing.
Mother Theresa's dying tear,
To the heart of the Sun my dear.
My heart, your mind, my fear,
To hell with your career.

I love you.

Satan delighted with his latest venture

Arktopus journalists were invited to the inaugural flight of Satanic Airways' first passenger jet.

"It’s a triumph for Satanists the world over." The airline’s official spokesperson, Flayd Gluts told us as the Boeing 666 was officially deflowered. "And now that even the Vatican has launched its own service we feel it’s necessary to also give truly evil passengers the chance to exercise their right to pollute as well."

Back in 1977 I went to see Starwars for the very first time. The whole event, for me, was summed up in one word - “Wow!”

Since then, I’ve sat through a mixed bag of sci-fi, but I’ve never quite found that same thrill. I’ve seen good films. I’ve seen worthy films. I’ve said wow on a number of different occasions. But I never realised it would take me thirty years until my next full blown “Wow!”

I’d love to say that I found this perfect moment watching something worthy. Something literate, or at least something aimed at grown ups. However, at the risk of being eternally cast out from the Brotherhood of Culture Snobbery, I have to admit that I found cinematic Nirvana watching a feature length toy advertisement.

A poem about my daughter’s sleepless weekend...

I won’t go to sleep, she told me
While the water is still at the door
It’ll creep upstairs to my little bed
And steal me away while I snore
I’ll float past lampposts and chimneys
On my warm little bed soft and pink
Stolen as if by the pixies
And if I roll over I’ll sink
Me and my dolly we’ll leave you
Swept away, we’ll be gone for good
And my teacher she’ll never believe you
When I don’t show for class like I should
So I won’t be sleeping tonight dad
You know I’m not ready to go
But the part that makes my heart sad, dad
Is I don’t even think that you’d know.
